Four Corners Junior Woman's Club
The GFWC Four Corners Junior Woman's Club recently installed new officers during a luncheon at The Back Porch Restaurant in Lake Alfred. Outgoing President Kris Duncan swore in President Lexa Comstock, First Vice President Toni Heymann, Second Vice President Cheryl Gibson, Recording Secretary Irene Ward, Corresponding Secretary Shelley Haberkorn and Treasurer Barbara Deel. General meetings will resume Sept. 20 at Tradewinds Restaurant at Bahama Bay Resort, 400 Grand Bahama Blvd., Davenport.
Knights of Columbus 7091
The Knights of Columbus Council 7091 of Cypress Gardens elected officers for the 2017-18 Columbian Year. Grand Knight Philip Pierpont, deacon at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Winter Haven, succeeds George Marhefka who will remain active in the council as a member of the board of trustees after serving two consecutive terms as Grand Knight. Other elected officers were Deputy Grand Knight Ken Nelson, Treasurer Adolfo Arteaga, Warden Scott Sharak, Chancellor Jerry Melnitzke, Advocate Ed Sheehan, Inside Guard John Gilson and Outside Guard Scott Kelso. The position of recorder remains open. Serving in nonelective positions are Financial Secretary Ruben Sanabria and members of the board of trustees, including Marhefka, Jim Sharak and Sal Porta. Pierpoint will also serve as scribe of the Frank J. Durbin Fourth Degree Assembly, the patriotic/ceremonial arm of the council. Pierpont and his wife, Lucille, live in Winter Haven and attend St. Matthew Catholic Church.
McGuire Difference Award
The Lake Wales Rotary Foundation was recently recognized with the $3,000 McGuire Difference Award for its Orange Blossom Revue in December in Lake Wales. The event celebrated Florida food, music and people to help raise funds for community programs. Karaoke for a Cause
Volterra at Solivita Marketplace recently held the Karaoke for a Cause fundraiser. More than 40 residents, families and friends turned out to "sing for the memories" and enjoyed special Huckleberry Lemon Drop cocktails to raise funds to support the Alzheimer's Association. Local companies that participated were BrightStar Care, Carter Homecare and Pinnacle Home Health. A total of $750 was raised and more Alzheimer's fundraising events will continue until the Walk for the Cause in October.
